Frequently Asked Questions for Buying Fine Art Photography

How to buy fine art photos
Thanks for your interest in Brian H. Daniel's photography work. We have created this FAQs page to get you started with any questions that you may have.

Some of Brian's work looks like it was painted. Are they paintings?

That's a great question. No, they are not. The digital processing happens in the computer after Brian takes the photo with a camera. Brian prefers to "digitally paint" in a computer for two reasons:

Firstly, it takes a lot less time, and the cost savings is passed to the clients. Secondly, the level of detail in the digital painting would be very difficult to match on a canvas because it would take many months of painting to almost achieve the same. You can read more about Brian's photo creation process HERE.

Is Brian planning on releasing some paintings to the public?

Yes, he is. There will be some oil on canvas paintings released in the near future. Sign up for our NEWSLETTER to get notifications.

Can I hire Brian to make some custom work for me?

Yes, you can. Please CONTACT US with your requests.

Can Brian's work be customized for my home?

Yes, it can. Brian can visit your home to take measurements and discuss placement. Photos sizes can be large or small with custom printing, framing and mats. We can also print on canvas, metal or make acrylic wall art.

I really like Brian's work. When will more selections be released?

We are still building our website and will be uploading a wider selection soon. We suggest signing up for the NEWSLETTER to get alerts when more fine art selections are available.

Can I see the work in person before I buy it?

Brian doesn't currently have his work in a gallery. Additionally, to save on warehouse costs, we don't mass produce the work; so there is no way to see it before you buy it. Each piece is made to order.

Is there a gallery where I can see the work up close in person?

Because of the everchanging issue with COVID, the flu, and Monkey-pox, Brian doesn't have his work in a gallery at this time. Perhaps, in the future, a gallery showing will be possible.

Can I buy one of Brian's digital files of my favorite photo?

Brian has chosen not to sell his digital files because he wants to tightly control production. If the digital files end up on the internet, then his work could be mass produced.

Will my print look just as good as I see it on the website?

Actually, it will look better. The digital files of the photos on the website have been reduced in quality for two reasons:

  • Firstly, it helps pages load faster if the screen resolution is at 72 PPI.
  • Secondly, in an effort to prevent piracy, the resolution needs to be reduced because the digital files cannot be printed high quality otherwise.

When Brian prints his work, the world's best paper and equipment is used to satisfy the archival, museum- quality standard that he has. Additionally, "master artisans" with decades of experience are in charge of the reproduction process, and they work under Brian's supervision to make sure the standard is high.

Do all of Brian's prints first start off as an original photo?

Yes. All of the work is shot from real-life. So, whether it's a cityscape, landscape, animal or human subject, it was first photographed before it goes through Brian's proprietary "digital iteration and layering process." This process is explained in detail HERE.

What does "limited edition" mean?

Some photographers mass produce their work. So, for example, if you go to Shutterstock.com, those digital photos are sold by the thousands to anyone who wants to purchase one.

In Brian's case, he chooses to limit the number of prints issued, even if they are not part of a limited edition run. This is so he can oversee the archival-quality reproductions and make sure the digital files do not hit the mass market.

Limited edition runs are typically anywhere from 20 to 250 prints, and each one is signed and numbered by the artist for the sake of authenticity. Brian signs much of his work, even if it's not part of a limited edition run.

Will my print come with a Certificate of Authenticity?

Yes, a COS comes with every print, and certain prints will be signed as well. For the limited edition runs, we keep meticulous documentation at our office to make sure that we can keep track of the provenance (history of ownership). The COS will have the following:

  • The name of the artist
  • The title of the work
  • An image of the artwork
  • The date of creation
  • The medium
  • The dimensions of the work
  • A description of the artwork
  • A statement of authenticity
  • And, finally, a signature

I saw a Brian H. Daniel print available on another website. How do I know it's genuine?

You can email us a link to the piece that is for sale, and we will check our records of ownership. We encourage sellers and buyers to keep in touch with us so that we can update our records for posterity.

How are Brian's prints reproduced? Is he using old-fashioned photo paper and chemicals to develop?

No. Everything is modern and environmentally friendly. No chemicals are used. Brian has partnered with master artisans with decades of experience, and he prints on the world's best reproduction equipment that meets museum-quality standard. The process Brian uses is called a Giclée print.

Can Brian print a traditional photo instead of the archive paper printing?

Yes. We can print on archive (museum quality) photo paper as well. Not all of Brian's work is available for that process because Limited Edition runs must all be identical. Brian will discuss with you which prints can be made on textured paper, photo prints, or canvas prints. We also do metal prints and acrylic mounts.
